We convene this meeting to advance the City of Tacoma’s mission to “create and sustain a competitive and fair business environment for contracting, procurement and consulting opportunities that include small businesses owned by minority, women, and socially and economically disadvantaged people.” 

III. (7:38am) Land Acknowledgment – Linda Cerna
The Equity in Contracting Advisory Committee acknowledges that we are on the traditional homelands of the Puyallup Tribe. The Puyallup people have lived on and stewarded these lands since the beginning of time and continue to do so today. We recognize that this land acknowledgement is one small step toward true allyship and we commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of the Indigenous people of this land and beyond.

       Why do we recognize the land?
To recognize the land is an expression of gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on, and a way of honoring the Indigenous people who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial. It is important to understand the long-standing history that has brought you to reside on the land, and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgements do not exist in a past tense, or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation.       Public Comment
The public may give oral comments related to agenda items at the end of the meeting. Speakers will have anywhere from 90 seconds to three minutes to provide comment, depending on the available time on the agenda.
